Plain water has more benefits than just drinking to quench your thirst and cool down. However, many people overlook this and drink other flavored water instead. Not drinking plain water for a long time can have long-term negative effects on your body, even to the point of death.

If you are looking for ways to improve your health, you should start by trying to change your eating habits by reducing the amount of food or snacks you eat and increasing your energy levels, as well as drinking enough water to meet your body’s needs. Fruit juice 

Believe it or not, drinking fruit juice is completely different from eating fresh fruit. This is because many fruit juices sold in supermarkets are process and contain higher amounts of sugar than normal. Some people may misunderstand that this is natural sweetness. But in fact, it is sweetness that comes from being made sweeter.

You can easily calculate the average amount of sugar in processed fruit juices – for example, a 236.5ml box of fruit juice might contain on average around 30g of sugar – this is the same amount as the sugar in a can of soda, which is equivalent to putting 7 teaspoons of sugar in a cup of tea/coffee! But to make matters worse, most juice products are found to contain no fibre or minerals at all.

Soda & Sweetened Beverages

Drinking sugary drinks can put you at risk of diabetes, heart disease, and even weight gain.

But on the other hand, these types of drinks can also hydrate your body just as well. However, the sweetness of these drinks may make you thirstier because they contain a lot of sugar. When sugar enters your bloodstream, it reacts with your blood and causes the water in your body’s cells to decrease, causing your blood sugar level to be unbalan.

Plus, your brain may be stimulat by sugar, making you want to drink more glasses of sweet water, even though you’re not thirsty!

Hydration Tip: Many fresh fruits and vegetables are high in water content and have many health benefits that can help you hydrate your body every day. For example, watermelon is 90% water and cucumbers are 95% water! If finding plain water to drink is difficult, try eating fresh fruits and vegetables, as these can be a healthy option.  

Coffee & Tea   

Coffee and tea are two of the most popular beverages in the world, and drinking just one cup (say, two cups a day) will not hydrate you enough.

Drinking several cups of coffee or tea a day can cause your body to receive too much caffeine, causing you to urinate more frequently than usual because the effect of caffeine stimulates the production of more urine than before. It also makes you lose weight from losing water. Therefore, drinking too many caffeinated drinks instead of plain water can put you at risk of losing unnecessary water in your body.

However, only certain types of tea contain caffeine, so herbal tea lovers can rest easy knowing that caffeine is a problem!

Hydration Tips: Drinking coffee or caffeinated tea in moderation will definitely help you hydrate. However, drinking more than 5 cups or 500 ml of these beverages a day can put you at risk of dehydration.

Therefore, drinking plain water is the best choice for our health in the long run. For those who want sweet tasting water, they should choose sugar-free drinks or use artificial sweeteners such as stevia, which are safer than drinks with high sugar content. However, they should not be chose to replace plain water.
